Why certifications matter
Certifications are much more than a box-ticking exercise – they help to secure safety, compliance, and career growth. The right certification can open doors to specialist industries such as petrochemical plants, offshore platforms, shipbuilding, and industrial installations.
Not only do certifications help you secure jobs, but they also pave the way for career advancement. For example, with additional training and experience, many employees who start as electricians with NEN 3140 certification go on to become supervisors and foremen.
Key certifications for technical workers
At InAxtion, we facilitate key certifications that align with Dutch and European standards, ensuring that our employees are job-ready and fully qualified to work in different environments. Here are the three main types of certification:
1. Electrical safety (NEN 3140)
This is a fundamental certification required for all electricians working in the Netherlands. It covers safety regulations for working with electrical installations and ensures that professionals know how to handle electrical systems safely.
2. Explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
This certification is required for workers operating in explosive-risk zones, such as petrochemical plants and offshore rigs. It covers different safety zones (Zone 1 and 2) and teaches how to work safely in hazardous areas. Courses range from basic understanding – ATEX 001 – to more specialized mounting and inspections (ATEX 003, 007, and 008).
3. Site-specific training and certifications
Most projects require additional, site-specific certifications, such as safety training for working in high-risk areas like refineries and offshore platforms. Depending on the client’s requirements, workers may also need extra training for handling specific tools, materials, or emergency procedures.
