Tech giant Google is investing 500 million euros in an expansion of its data center in Eemshaven, Groningen. This is necessary for the "fast growing demand from consumers and businesses". This brings the total investment in the data center amounts to almost 1.5 billion euros. The expansion has to be built in the coming years.
According to Google, the location of the data center yielded an average of 2200 full-time jobs between 2014 and 2017, including construction. Eemshaven is one of the largest data centers in The Netherlands with an estimated capacity of 65 megawatts. Since last year, according to Google, it runs entirely on renewable energy, such as windmills and solar panels. (Source)
